Wow. I'm speechless. This is going to hurt me to say this because I love these guys – they were super cool to me when I met them.  But, wow.

THIS MIGHT BE ONE OF THE WORST ALBUMS I HAVE HEARD IN QUITE SOME TIME. I think it easily at this point is at #1 for "Worst Albums of 2007".

When you think Silverchair, you think rock n' roll. Well, there is no rock n' roll on the bands new album Young Modern. Not a single track remotely rocks out.  Keyboards? An opera sound? I don't know what happened here. On some tracks, the music is decent – not what we come to expect from Silverchair, but listenable- but then vocalist Daniel John's vocals aren't listenable. Then there are some tracks where you are about to fall into John's voice, but the music is like a train wreck.

There is one good song on this album, and it is the band's new single "Straight Lines". I would download that from iTunes or get it somewhere for sure. It is a fabulous song. I'll even give that song a 5-out-of-5. But then the rest of the album just drops an egg with 1's and 2's. Not a single other track even got a rating of a 3 from me.

Very disappointing. I know all albums can't be good, but I was really looking forward to this album. Save your money, get the song "Straight Lines" somehow, and just keep moving along.
