First Avenue
Minneapolis, MN
One of the original bars and clubs in Minnesota, First Avenue is well known nationwide. The home of Prince. Where bands like Nirvana played before anyone knew who they were. These days, you will find all kinds of rock and alternative shows coming through First Avenue. Located in the heart of downtown Minneapolis, the venue is still one of the best for shows in Minneapolis.
SIGHT LINES & SOUND
Unless you are upstairs in the bar across from the stage, which is blocked off by glass, the sound in First Avenue sounds great regardless where you are. Even from behind the glass, you can hear the music, just not as loud and clear.
SECURITY & STAFF
The security at the door is very thorough. They WILL pat you down HARD. Once inside, the security is just like security at any other club. Nothing too special to report on here.
COST OF A DRINK
A Miller Lite will run you $4.25. Not too bad I guess.
BATHROOMS
I wish I didn't have to mention these. Whatever you do, even if you have to go really bad, don't go #2 at First Avenue. Urinals? There are none. You have the classic troughs here.
PARKING
You are in downtown Minneapolis, so you are going to pay anywhere from $6-$15 to park. $6 parking is a good 4-block hike. If you park closer, you'll probably pay $10-$15.
OVERALL
Great venue for a show. The amenities aren't the greatest at First Avenue, but you have to remember it is the oldest club in the Cities and just being at First Avenue, you can tell people that "hey man, I'm at First Avenue".
