TOBY RAND INTERVIEW

Forget about Webster's Dictionary. If you want to see the textbook definition of a Rock Star, it is Toby Rand. Once on the hit reality series Rock Star Supernova, Toby is about to release an album with his band Juke Kartel. Partying with The Rand last month was an experience I'll never forget…and something tells me I'll be partying with him more down the road! Read more…

Asif : Hey dude, how you been doing?

Toby: Hey bruz!

Asif: Seems like just yesterday we were partying it up together!

Toby:  Yeah, Myth was awesome. You looked like you had a few cocktails.

Asif: (laughs) Yeah. Just a few!

Toby:  We're doing great bro, touring in a plush bus is pretty rad.

Asif: If I saw it that night, I obviously don't remember. But what is your favorite cocktail to have right when you get off stage performing?

Toby: I like to have a Jagermeister and Red Bull...keeps me pumped!

Asif:  Damn. I could never get into Red Bull! Musically, who are some of your influences?

Toby: I get a lot of influence from Bono, Jim Morrison and Chris Cornell...I've always loved Bono, but I do like to jump off things.

Asif:  Yeah you do! Bono is like the best front man of all-time in my book man! U2 rules!! You have a favorite U2 track that you dig the most?

Toby:  Yeah mate, my favourite track is "Bad", or "With or Without You",  or "Pride", "Walk On" etc etc etc...haha too many mate!

Asif: Yeah, it is hard to pick just one, huh? I guess if I had to choose it would be "Walk On".  Being on this tour with guys like Tommy Lee, Dave Navarro, Gilby Clarke, etc…what have you learned or picked up about life on the road from those guys that you might not have known or experienced before?

Toby:  I've learnt to keep a positive energy while on tour.  Continuous fun always helps for a great show. Also, I've learnt how to schmooze the ladies like Dave does…haha!

Asif: Schmoooozin'!! Anyway, what is the song "Throw It Away" about? I love that tune man, it really shreds!

Toby:  "Throw it Away" is based on some life experiences that I have dealt with. Like being drunk and waking up to a girl you don't know, and then realizing that drugs and alcohol can lead to bad things, yet they are fun to do...

Asif:  Kick ass. So, how was the whole experience like of being on the television program Rock Star Supernova?

Toby:  It was amazing mate! I have no regrets and it is the perfect platform to launch my band (JUKE KARTEL) internationally. Meeting T Lee, Navarro, Brooke Burke and all the contestants was awesome, and I'm just lucky I came out of the show on a high.

Asif: So the album is coming out this summer, right? How close is it to being completed?

Toby: The album will be completed early March in Hollywood. Can't wait! Hopefully have it on shelves by May/June.

Asif: Awesome man! I am so stoked! After this tour, what is next for Juke Kartel? Finish up the album, release it…then are you guys planning on touring more?

Toby: We are completing the tour in Australia and New Zealand mid-late March. Then we are launching an Australian TV show based on JK touring Australia and the states. So we will be back in May to tour all round America and Canada, then we'll hopefully go to Iceland and Sweden.

Asif:  When you aren't rockin' out on stage, what do you like to do for fun?

Toby: For fun, I love to surf, snowboard, wakeboard...anything to do with beach and sun. And I love to drink with my mates!

Asif: I love drinkin' with my mates too! Next time you come through Minnesota, I'm expecting us to party it up man!

Toby: Thanks mate! You, me, Tommy, we'll all party!
