Lostprophets

Back in the studio working on the follow up to the band's third album "A Liberation Transmission", Lostprophets singer/writer Ian Watkins took a few moments to shed some light on video games, MySpace, and more. Read more…

Asif:  Alright, let's get right to it. You guys have toured all across the world. What is the craziest story from the road that you could share with me?

Ian:  Jamie throwing up into a trash bag and carrying it around an airport with him, before passing out in the toilets and our plane being halted on the runway because of it.

Asif:  Holy crap! That is a good one. So I understand you have a degree in graphic design. Has the thought ever crossed your mind to design the cover of the new album?

Ian:  I design all the album covers, single covers, merchandise, and the website.

Asif: Again, holy crap! I had no clue! So I hear you are a big video game guy. What are some of your favorite games?

Ian:  I have an Xbox 360 and a PS2. I'm currently playing Crackdown and about to start God of War 2.  I have too many favorite games to mention:  Resident Evil 4, God of War, Gears of War, Lost Planet, The Thing, Mercenaries etc etc..

Asif:  Away from the road what do you do to unwind or have fun?

Ian:  Video games and movies mostly.

Asif:  Alright! The most played song on my iPod is "Last Summer". I think the next closest song is like 75-100 listens away. To me personally, it is in my top 3 songs of all-time. What is that song about?

Ian:   It's about the last summer you spend with your core group of friends before you all grow up and move on.

Asif:  Ah – something almost all of us can relate to as well. What do you think is the biggest thing that is wrong with the world?

Ian:  The government.

Asif: (laughs). Well then…that would be fun to dive into…and I'm sure it would be an entertaining topic that could be covered in hours! But moving along…some of the fans may not know this, but you actually used to play drums in the band and switched over to vocals when the band needed a vocalist. Any chance that you will lay down a few drum tracks for the next album?

Ian: Nah, I'm way too good.

Asif:  A lot of bands out there have MySpace pages that aren't monitored by the band. They have some random guy run the site. Last I checked, it was called MySpace, not YourSpace or OurSpace. You have any words of advice for bands out that have random people running their MySpace page and even answering the fan mail?

 Ian:  Wake up!

Asif:  Agreed! Keeping on the subject of MySpace for a moment, the band recently stated on MySpace that the "pop" is out of your guys "system". You guys even removed all the songs from Liberation Transmission from the MySpace page and put up older songs from Start Something and other unreleased tracks. Being open about having a huge pop influence and wanting to go in a pop direction for a while, what sparked the sudden change in heart to go back to the harder old school days?

Ian:  Like I had said, we had got a lot of it out of us with the last album. That's not to say the new one won't be catchy cause I love writing hooky stuff, it will just be a lot darker.

Asif:  Ooh…darker is good! At least I think so! So, what can fans expect from the fourth album?

Ian: Evil!
